Twitter Talk

October 9th, 2009 Charlie No comments

Everyone has some crazy idea about how to best use twitter. Most of these people have little to know idea what they are talking about and as usually very poor marketing professionals, or those claiming to be marketing professionals, are leading people down the wrong path.

I am going to explain the truths about twitter, how recent changes in the rules and terms of use help marketing more then it hurts it, and how to use these changes to your benefit. First of all, there has been a common misleading rumor that their is money in numbers. The belief was if you could get tens and hundreds of thousands of people following you, then you will make money. That is true, but its bad practice.

Here’s the problem. People started logging into twitter and setting up spam bots. These are programs that basically just post links to various products and services all day long. The averages of bots/spammers on twitter is through the roof. This means when you get 10,000 followers, there is a good chance 6000 to 7000 are nothing more then spammers and bots not interested in what you say or what you market. The real trick is getting 3000 to 4000 people who are actually real, talk, chat, converse with others, etc.

In the past programs like hummingbird software (WHICH I WARNED AGAINST USING!!!) were used to automate the task of following a mass amount of users, removing a mass amount of users, and returning follows from those who follow you. Recent changes in the spam policies at twitter make the use of such programs no longer allowed. If you have followed and unfollowed people in a short time period, particularly by automated means (aggressive follower churn) The creator of hummingbird software had his account closed (the irony) for using it.

Also twitter changed a lot of things so that most automation software no longer works. There are some that do still work like the catfood follower which mass removes people who don’t follow you back and mass returns follows of those who follow you. However if you get caught using these software packages you will lose your twitter account.

It is also now against the rules If you repeatedly follow and unfollow people, whether to build followers or to garner more attention for your profile. This is actually a great rule! This means chose your followers wisely. What I do is I mass follow a lot of people by targeting a search on the twitter search. Last night for example I targeted the term “started a new business”. This means anyone who said the phrase “started a new business” showed up in the search. I started following everyone who made the statement.

This method can be done over and over to gather more and more people to follow. After following the daily limit just wait (Note: This daily limit is percentage based in the beginning and can be frustrating). The following day you can do the whole process again. Now after a time you will realize you have done exactly what I advised against. You will have a list filled with spammers and bots.

The new updates in the twitter interface make handling this problem a snap. You want to log onto the twitter site and click on “following”. This shows a list of everyone you follow. Their are two types of views for this, “expanded view” and “list view”. You want to ensure you are viewing in expanded view. Expanded view shows you the most recent posts of the people you follow.

Now just scan through the list and click on anyone who posted a link. Its best to view their profile to ensure they are spamming because many non spammers do also post links. After confirming a bot or spammer, remove them from your following. By doing this you ensure all the people who YOU follow are real. You want to pay attention to what these people say and start conversations with them. These are people who spend money online. The more you talk to these people the more they trust you and your products and services.

Its okay to toss advertising and links to your blog posts to people on twitter just be careful how often you do it and make sure you are not just posting link upon link. That is okay for news website owners to do, not bloggers. Also just because you follow someone does not mean that they will follow you back! That is okay. Despite claims you shouldn’t return a follow just because someone follows you. If you do, you will not use twitter to its fullest potential because you’ll be spammed!

However, at the same time every now and again you do want to clear out the people who are not returning follows. If they NEVER return your follow its because you don’t interest them, therefore conversation with them will be fruitless. For this you shouldn’t use automated software! However there is a service called friendorfollow that tells you who you follow and who follows you back! You can use this to unfollow people who don’t return your follow.

I strongly suggest everyone check out the updated rules at twitter http://help.twitter.com/forums/26257/entries/18311

The Best Kept Twitter Marketing Secret Revealed!

October 9th, 2009 Charlie No comments

Okay so after teaching this secret, I will not likely be posting anymore about twitter for a long time. This secret is just that good. First of all let me explain a few things before I show you the secret and tell you how it works. This is a secret for blog owners and website owners. This little trick will not help anyone who is marketing affiliate products without a website. You absolutely need a website for this to work.

Okay so let me explain. When twitter first started some brilliant “marketing guru” (probably one of the fools who created hummingbird for twitter) got the funny idea in his head that the more people who follow you on twitter, the more people you have to market products and websites at. That is true, but only in its most vague form. You see because of this bad guy’s idea, massive people started looking for a means to build up their following. They paid for programs, they started following everyone they could and creating what twitter now calls follower churn.

Follower churn is the practice of following a mass amount of people then removing everyone who doesn’t follow you back. Do this enough and you build a following. There are three problems with this. One problem that has arose from this is that twitter will now ban accounts if they catch you doing follow churn techniques (trust me I’ve lost a few already). The second problem is that spammers started using this method, so now if you try it you get hundreds of spammers who don’t care about or ever visit your website. The last problem is a little more vague. The problem is building a twitter following is redundant. You already have a website, you want to get followers there! Why build two separate lists of followers? See why its redundant?

The truth is, as I have recently discovered, that you don’t need ANY twitter followers to use twitter to market a blog. You can get others to do it for you and its so easy no one even gets it. You want to know some of the websites using this method? I am sure you have heard of or visited at least one site using the method. Sites like twittrain.info, morefollowers.net, follower-power.com, followadd.com, mytweetfollowers.com, and Getmefollowers.com (highly recommended) are using this method all the time – not to build you followers but to build themselves traffic!

So you want to know what the method is and how to get it working for you?

The method is called “viral tweet code” and its completely free! Viral tweet code is a small customizable form that logs a visitor into twitter and posts a predefined message.

If I have the free viral tweet code on my website it means you are sending all your twitter followers to my website when you submit the form, and I didn’t even do anything! If I didn’t even have a twitter account I could still use this method! You are marketing my website for me!

This means a lot for anyone who owns a website or blog. This means you can put code on your website or in a post and whenever a user types in their name and password, they advertise your website for you. The trick is getting them to actually type in their password and user name. So how do you do it?

That’s just as easy. You create a page and include the code given to you when you set up free viral tweets!! This is still an unknown twitter secret and you may want in on it before every website and marketing person on twitter tries it and overwhelms the twitterverse. When that happens, people will stop typing in user names and passwords and the method will stop working!

So to create your own page just like this one you need to get the free code from Free Viral Tweets. Follow their setup. Change the text message to suit your needs, remove the entire textarea tag if you want to make the post invisable like I did, and then create your page with the code included. Sit back and wait. It only take 1 person to tweet this for you to get a viral following.

Also I want to mention this method may not show results within days of doing this. Sometimes it takes a week or two. The truth is when it starts, it never ends. People will be marketing for you on twitter forever!

How To Benefit From Social Networking And Just Work A Little At Doing It

September 4th, 2009 Charlie No comments

Do you find it somewhat exhausting to do social networking? You may because the majority of people working online today do not want to spend all their time hanging out in social networking sites.

This brings up the question of how can you benefit from social networking without having it take over your life?

1. If you do not have a blog you need to start one right now. Hosting your own blog using the Wordpress platform is the best way to do this.

Any serious Online marketer can post one or two articles a week on their blog. There are a couple of key things you want to keep in mind when you do this.

First of all you should target a keyword phrase that is based on something relevant to the theme of your Online business. Try and use a longtail phrase of three or more words.

The reason for this is you stand a better chance to rank high for those words than you do for shorter phrases and search engines will pick up on that.

Secondly you should social bookmark your blog post to some of the top directories. You can use a submission service such as Onlywire.com to reach numerous directories with one click.

This includes bookmarking to Twitter, Facebook, Technorati and Stumbleupon which are some of the most important ones.

The benefit of social bookmarking is the amount of traffic and backlinks your site builds up. It also lets search engines know that you are constantly adding fresh content and they will begin to spider your blog on a more consistent basis.

2. You should find one or two discussion forums that you enjoy and hang out in those every week. This not only will increase your rankings in the search engines, but will increase your traffic flow too.

The key is to write posts and include keyword phrases you want in. You should also hyperlink your primary keyword phrase in your signature file to build up relevancy for that phrase.

3. One final point I want to make is about social media. You can benefit from adding audio and video to your site without creating them yourself.

Google owns YouTube and they are packed with thousands of relevant videos you can post on your blog for free.

This helps liven up your blog and make your visitors experiences more enjoyable. By adding videos, audios, and graphics as well your blog becomes more exciting which will help increase the number of subscribers to your RSS feed and repeat visitors.

In summary you do not have to spend all day to benefit from social networking. It is important that you do at least add it to your online marketing efforts.
